Nia-Avelina
Aguirre has been in the health and fitness profession since 1983,
practicing since 1967. She holds an honors degree in Exercise Science,
with her honors thesis on Health and Aging. In addition she is a
certified Natural Health Educator and Reflexology Therapist. She
has taken courses in naturopathic medicine from Bastyr University,
WA and is currently enrolled at the Naturopathic Institute of Therapies
and Education in Mt. Pleasant, MI, continuing her studies to become
a certified naturopath.
Nia holds many national certifications
and has extensive teaching experience in many areas of health and
fitness. She has a diverse background working with the community,
schools, universities, businesses, hospitals, non-profits, and private
clients in areas of education, research, health promotion, cardiac
rehab, presentations, and consultations.
Holding no barriers in regards to
age or ability, Nia works with special needs groups, the K-12, the
Roaring 20s, the thirtysomethings, the Fab FOURties, the Nifty 50s,
and with those that no longer celebrate birthdays.
In the community, she is an original
committee member of Fitness in Time, a fund-raiser of Washtenaw
County. For three years she was the Huron River Day Canoe Race Director.
Fees raised went to scholarships for disadvantaged youths. She still
volunteers for the Ecology Center's Eco-Ride, and you may have seen
her picking up highway trash as a volunteer for the M-Dot program
